Qld: Beattie forcing VMOs to quit, their union says
A national medical body has accused Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE of forcing visiting
medical officers to leave the state's ailing health system.
Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation Queensland president NICK BUCKMASTER
says specialists at hospitals across Queensland are resigning in frustration over pay
and workplace negotiations.
The state government has offered a pay rise of 7.6 per cent and a 28 per cent loading
to cover the cost of running their private rooms while they're working in the public system.
But the doctors want 40 per cent.
Visiting specialists at hospitals across south-east Queensland have already tendered
their resignations, with 23 quitting last week.
Mr BEATTIE says the government want to negotiate with health workers fairly and sensibly.
