ACT: Budget of $12.9 million forecast, says Humphries
ACT Chief Minister and Treasurer GARY HUMPHRIES says the ACT's 2001 budget is expected
to include a surplus of around $12.9 million.
Mr HUMPHRIES says the surplus may change but would certainly be between $10 million
and $15 million after expenditure of around $1.8 billion.
The ACT budget will be delivered on May 1, but for the second time a draft budget has
been produced which could be tweaked after community consultation and consideration by
Legislative Assembly committees.
Mr HUMPHRIES says the budget has three broad themes involving a raft of new initiatives
worth almost $20 million in 2001-02: addressing poverty, early intervention, and innovation.
The ACT will spend $103.6 million on capital works including roads and operating theatres.
