NSW: Senior police officer found shot dead inside police centre
A distinguished senior detective has been found shot dead inside the NSW Police Headquarters
in western Sydney.
The body of the 51-year-old detective sergeant was found by colleagues inside the weapons
store room at at the Parramatta headquarters just before midday (AEST).
Police Commissioner KEN MORONEY says a special team of investigators has been brought
in from Bankstown station.
He won't confirm the cause of the man's death, but police have said the incident is
not being treated as suspicious.
The commissioner's paid tribute to the officer, who joined the force in 1969 and wasn't
on duty today.
Mr MARONEY says the officer was very experienced, and served with distinction in the
War Crimes Commission in The Hague.
Mr MORONEY says the officer had only returned from The Hague in recent months to rejoin
the NSW police force.
The officer's colleagues at the State Crime Command in Parramatta are being counselled
by a police chaplain.
