QLD: Plans for sawmill at risk, says business = 2
A spokesman for Primary Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk said the deadline for having
investment in place for the Ingham sawmill had been extended three times this year at the
company's request.
The Department of Primary Industries' (DPI) forestry division had received no formal
application for a fourth extension but was prepared to consider it if the document was lodged
with the government, the spokesman said.
DPI forestry was also prepared to meet all but one third of the $17,000 cost of conducting
a feasibility study into establishing a softwood plantation to replace the current native
hardwood supplies.
"We've been bending over backwards to help," he said.
Ingham Sawmillers would have to meet the other one third cost of the feasibility study that
the company had requested.
