Pupils 'pin' the tale of our town on the internet [Edition 3]

SCHOOLCHILDREN have been learning about history in an interactiveway by uploading old photographs to the internet.

Boys in Year 8 at The Billericay School have been using thewebsite Historypin to change the way they learn about the past.

The site allows users to 'pin' old photographs of familiar placeson to modern images from Google Street View to see how landscapeshave changed over the years.

With the help of their Year 12 peers, the Year 8 boys planned aHistorypin workshop, which took place on Thursday.

Older members of the community brought in old photos which theythen discussed with the students and shared the history behind them.

The boys then taught the senior citizens how to use Historypin byscanning their old photos and uploading them onto the site.

Patrick Hylton, 13, said: "I learnt so much. Hearing the storiesreally brought the history alive. It was so interesting."

Tommy Underwood, also 13, said: "I can't believe that I've metsomeone who's met Elvis Presley and also carried Winston Churchill'scoffin."
